The Exorcist's Secret is a 2023 Korean mystery-comedy movie directed by Kim Sung-sik, starring Kang Dong-won as the unconventional exorcist Dr. Cheon. However, despite the stellar cast and compelling visuals, the film's attempt to blend horror and humor sometimes dilutes the storyline’s intensity. This balance between comedy and the supernatural occasionally detracts from the overall suspense, making it harder for viewers to remain fully engaged.

After watching this film, I begin to doubt whether many of the events in the news are mere coincidences or the product of hidden intentions.

The Korean movie, 'Project Silence (2024)' takes viewers on a harrowing journey across the Gonghang Bridge, where disaster and survival intertwine. As the bridge teeters on the brink of collapse following a multi-vehicle collision and exploision, survivors find themselves stranded amidst worsening weather. To make matters worse, a classified military experiment, "Project silence" has unleashed vicious experimental dogs onto the bridge. In this dire situation, a National Security Office administrator,  Cha Jung Won (played by Lee Sun Kyun), a tow truck driver, Jo Bak (played by Ju Ji Hoon) and the scientist behind the dogs, Dr. Yang (played by Kim Hee Won), face a terrifying, uncontrollable threat while battling to stay alive. 

Lee Sun Kyun and Ju Ji Hoon deliver impressive performances as they struggle through a relentless series of crises. Lee portrays Cha Jung Won, a single father desperate to see his daugher safely off to study abroad, only to be caught in this catastrophe. He brings emotional depth to the character, particularly as he faces betrayal and personal loss amid the unfolding horror. Ju Ji Hoon's Jo Bak, a somewhat opportunistic tow truck driver, adds a rugged charm and determination to his role, balancing out the tension with moments of levity as he cares for his beloved dog, Jody. 

However, while Project Silence showcases compelling acting, the story often feels contrived and suffers from loose, at times unrealistic, plot developments. The bridge disaster and release of military dogs create a thrilling setup, yet the narrative relies heavily on improbable twists that detract from the immersive experience. Despite these flaws, Escape offers an adrenaline-fueled experience, driven largely by its cast’s dedication and strong performances. For action and disaster film fans, Escape provides a visually intense thrill ride, though it may leave viewers wishing for a more polished storyline to match the actors' efforts. 

Go Ah-sung presents an outstanding performance in "Because I Hate Korea (2024)", capturing the subtle emotional journey of her character, Gye-na. She plays a young woman who leaves everything behind to find happiness and a sense of accomplishment in New Zealand, disillusioned with life in Korea.

The film begins with a stark sense of frustration over Kye Na's life in Korea, which she perceives as oppressive and restrictive. Goa-sung skillfully conveys this initial determination to escape, immersing herself in a character that is mixed with challenge and fragile hope. Watching Goa-sung change and evolve as she immersed herself in a new environment in New Zealand, I can see that true satisfaction is not as simple as a change in scenery. Goa-sung's subtle facial expressions and introverted moments inject depth into Kye Na's journey, making the audience feel her struggles and moments of quiet revelation.

The film deeply resonates with viewers, especially those who are accustomed to the immigrant experience. It raises the essential question of whether the essence of happiness can be gained by leaving somewhere else, or whether you need something deeper inside yourself. The film does not just describe a journey to a foreign land, but also earnestly explains the meaning of self-discovery, happiness, that you explore there. Through Kye-na's experience, the film seems to subtly ask, "Can leaving lead to true happiness?"
